Brazil’s Egg Exports Surge 296 Percent in May as US Demand Soars
On June 10, 2025, the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) reported a 296% increase in May egg exports, reaching 5,358 tons, with revenue surging 356.2% to $13.75 million.
The surge is primarily driven by the avian flu epidemic in the US, which has killed over 100 million chickens. The US imported 4,166 tons of Brazilian eggs in May, a 1,384% year-on-year increase, and total imports for January to May skyrocketed 996%, reaching 9,735 tons.
From January to May, Brazil exported 18,357 tons of eggs, up 165.6% year-on-year, with revenue rising 196% to $42.1 million. Other key buyers include Chile (2,354 tons, +10.8%), Japan (1,422 tons, +160.9%), and Mexico (1,050 tons), while UAE imports dropped 13.8%.
Meanwhile, domestic chicken and egg prices fell due to restrictions on Brazilian poultry exports after a highly pathogenic avian flu outbreak in one farm. According to IBGE, May egg prices dropped 3.98%, and chicken prices fell 0.17%, with Porto Alegre reporting a 0.56% decline.
