India and China Ramp Up Palm Oil Purchases Short-Term Demand Surges
India and China, the two largest global buyers of palm oil, are expected to aggressively increase imports in the short term, according to industry experts.
India, the world’s largest importer of palm oil, is boosting purchases to meet festival season demand, while China is increasing imports to replenish low stock levels. This surge in demand is likely to support palm oil prices, which have been fluctuating due to global supply chain disruptions and high production costs.
Experts believe that seasonal trends and rising biodiesel consumption are also contributing to the uptick in purchases. India’s palm oil imports are on track to surpass 1.1 million tons in September, while China’s purchases are expected to rise by 15% month-on-month.
The increased buying activity comes as palm oil-producing countries, like Indonesia and Malaysia, ramp up production to meet growing international demand. However, industry analysts warn that weather uncertainties and geopolitical tensions could still disrupt supply chains.
