Australia Rejects Four Food Shipments from China in May Due to Safety Violations

Australia’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry recently released its May 2025 report on imported food violations, highlighting four batches of Chinese products that failed to meet safety standards.

Pistachios Contaminated with Aflatoxin
On May 13, Sun Wing Nuts & Food Co. Ltd. was flagged for exporting processed pistachios with an aflatoxin level of 0.068 mg/kg, exceeding the FSC 1.4.1 safety limit.

Frozen Spinach Contains Multiple Pesticides
A shipment of frozen spinach from Qingdao Huahong Food Co. Ltd., dated May 20, was found to exceed limits for both bifenthrin (0.02 mg/kg) and triadimefon (0.07 mg/kg) under FSC 1.4.2.

Strawberries Laced with Pesticide Residue
Frozen strawberries from Green Garden Produce (Henan) Co., Ltd., inspected on May 28, contained procymidone at 0.04 mg/kg, breaching the FSC 1.4.2 standard.

Peanuts with High Aflatoxin Levels
Roasted peanuts from Sichuan Xinhaikunlin Food Co., Ltd., tested on May 30, showed an alarming aflatoxin content of 0.37 mg/kg, far above the acceptable threshold under FSC 1.4.1.

Consumer Safety Measures and Compliance
Australian authorities emphasized that these products were intercepted before reaching consumers. The violations, ranging from pesticide residues to toxin contamination, highlight the need for stricter quality control measures in food exports. Importers and exporters must ensure compliance with Australia’s Food Standards Code to avoid similar incidents in the future.
