BASF Relocates Global Electronics Hub to Taipei Names New Leadership

ECHEMI 2025-07-03

On July 1, 2025, BASF announced a major strategic shift by relocating its global electronics materials operations base to Taipei. This decision reflects Taiwan's pivotal role in semiconductor innovation and manufacturing, aiming to drive growth in semiconductor and display materials while enhancing service capabilities for East Asian and U.S. customers.

Effective immediately, Jens Liebermann assumes the role of Senior Vice President of BASF’s global electronics materials business. Liebermann, formerly Vice President of BASF’s semiconductor materials division and Managing Director of BASF Taiwan, brings extensive expertise in semiconductors and a proven track record of fostering strategic client growth. His leadership will focus on accelerating the company’s response to evolving market demands and securing long-term success in the fast-growing semiconductor sector.

Dr. Moritz Ehrenstein, currently Managing Director of Rolic Technologies and head of BASF’s display materials business, will succeed Liebermann as Vice President of Global Semiconductor Materials Management, based in Taiwan. Ehrenstein’s deep experience in technology innovation and global sales will strengthen BASF’s position in advanced semiconductor materials.

This leadership change follows the retirement of Dr. Lothar Laupichler, who dedicated 32 years to BASF, significantly enhancing its capabilities in semiconductors, displays, and specialty metal materials.

BASF’s electronics materials division provides advanced chemical solutions for semiconductors, displays, and industrial applications, positioning itself as a global leader in this sector.
