China Extends Anti-Dumping Duties Up to 103.1 Percent on Steel Imports

ECHEMI 2025-07-03

China has announced a five-year extension of anti-dumping duties on certain stainless steel products imported from the European Union, United Kingdom, South Korea, and Indonesia, aiming to safeguard its domestic manufacturers. The duties, effective from Tuesday, range from 20.2% to 103.1%, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

The measures target imports of stainless steel billet and hot-rolled stainless steel plates, which are vital for producing finished stainless steel products and are widely used in shipbuilding, railway, container, and power industries. The ministry stated that removing the duties would likely result in continued harm to China’s domestic steel sector.

The extension underscores China's commitment to protecting its local industry amidst growing competition from global suppliers. These anti-dumping duties, initially introduced to address unfair pricing practices, are seen as critical for maintaining a level playing field for Chinese manufacturers.

This decision comes as global trade tensions persist, with countries across regions implementing similar measures to defend their industries. The extended tariffs are expected to influence the pricing and trade flows of stainless steel products in the coming years, particularly in sectors that heavily rely on these materials.
