BASF Becomes Sole Owner of Alsachimie with Strategic $49 Stake Acquisition

ECHEMI 2025-07-07

On July 1, BASF announced the completion of its acquisition of DOMO Chemicals' 49% stake in Alsachimie, making it the sole owner of the joint venture. BASF previously held 51% of Alsachimie, which was established in February 2020 and is located on the French-German border. The company specializes in producing key intermediates for polyamide production, including KA oil, adipic acid, and AH salt (hexamethylene diamine adipate).

This move strengthens BASF's upstream integration for polyamide 66 (PA66) production at its Chalampé facility in France, a critical hub for PA66 precursors in Europe. By fully owning Alsachimie, BASF aims to enhance its supply reliability and consolidate its leadership in the PA66 value chain.

Dr. Stephan Kothrade, member of BASF’s executive board, stated: “As a leading supplier of PA66 intermediates, our top priority is to ensure a reliable supply for Europe. Acquiring DOMO Chemicals' stake allows us to solidify our position in the PA66 value chain and support the future growth of automotive and textile industries.”

This acquisition complements BASF’s recent efforts to expand its PA66 production capacity. On June 12, 2025, BASF successfully commenced operations at its new 260,000-ton-per-year hexamethylene diamine (HMD) plant in Chalampé, which was constructed in just three years. Additionally, BASF’s Freiburg facility in Germany is nearing completion of its PA66 expansion, further enhancing its production capabilities.

Meanwhile, Yves Bonte, CEO of DOMO Chemicals, emphasized that the transaction aligns with DOMO’s strategy to focus on customized polyamide solutions for key industries, including automotive, consumer goods, and electronics.
