Explosion at South Korea Cosmetics Plant Leaves 3 Injured and 1 Missing Toxic Smoke and Shockwave Hit Area
A powerful explosion rocked a cosmetics ingredient factory in Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea at 12:42 PM on August 3, injuring three workers—one critically—and leaving another missing. The plant, located about 300 km southeast of Seoul, primarily produces hydrogen peroxide used in cosmetics.
The blast triggered a fast-spreading fire and released toxic smoke, making it difficult for firefighters to approach the site. Helicopters were deployed to help bring the blaze under control. The force of the explosion shattered windows in a convenience store 300 meters away, and nearby apartment residents reported feeling a significant tremor.
By 6:13 PM, the fire was largely contained, but rescue teams were still searching for the missing worker. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
