Bridgestone Sells Mexican Carbon Black Plant to Cabot for $70 Million Global Supply Chain Strategy Takes Major Step

ECHEMI 2025-08-17

Bridgestone has announced the sale of its wholly owned subsidiary, Mexican Carbon Black Manufacturing (MXCB), to Cabot Corporation for $70 million, with the deal expected to close within 3 to 6 months. This move follows Bridgestone’s July sale of its Thailand carbon black business to Tokai Carbon’s local arm, marking a significant restructuring of its carbon black operations.

MXCB, launched in 2005 and located next to Cabot’s existing Altamira plant, specializes in reinforcing carbon black for tires and industrial applications. Under the agreement, Cabot will supply Bridgestone with reinforcing carbon black from MXCB, deepening a partnership that dates back to the 1950s.

The transaction strengthens Cabot’s global production footprint and flexibility, allowing it to meet broader customer needs and support long-term growth. Bridgestone, meanwhile, is sharpening its focus on high-value tire segments and aims to boost innovation and productivity across the entire value chain—from R&D and materials procurement to manufacturing and sales.

Bridgestone will retain its strategic carbon black R&D and production linked to core technologies, with its Japanese subsidiary Asahi Carbon continuing to drive innovation in high-end tires, racing, and sustainability-focused products.

By leveraging Cabot’s scale and expertise, Bridgestone expects to enhance its supply resilience and long-term competitiveness in a fast-evolving market. The sale marks a key step in the company’s transformation strategy and its ongoing collaboration with world-class partners.
