August 29th News

I. Price Trends

Taking the sulfuric acid method rutile titanium dioxide, which has a large volume of transactions in the Chinese market, as an example, according to data monitoring, the titanium dioxide market in China stabilized after bottoming out in August. The average price of titanium dioxide was 13,640 CNY/ton on August 1st and 13,480 CNY/ton on August 29th, with a price decrease of 1.17%.

2. Market Analysis

In August, the Chinese titanium dioxide market stabilized after a decline. In the first ten days, the market experienced weak demand, with downstream factories and traders mostly observing, leading to insufficient trading activity and a downward shift in market focus. In the middle of the month, overall demand from the downstream market was moderate, with cautious purchasing, and the market operated in a stable consolidation. In the latter part of the month, titanium dioxide companies jointly issued letters announcing price increases, which improved the trading atmosphere compared to before. As of now, the prices for sulfuric acid method rutile titanium dioxide in China are mostly between 12,900-13,800 CNY/ton; anatase type is around 11,600-11,900 CNY/ton, with actual transaction prices negotiated on a case-by-case basis.

In terms of titanium concentrate, the price of titanium concentrate in August has slightly decreased. This month, the terminal demand is weak, and the procurement of raw materials is relatively cautious. Affected by the reduction in the supply of raw ore, new order transactions are at an impasse, with the market mainly in a wait-and-see attitude. So far, the transaction price for 46,10 titanium concentrate from small and medium-sized manufacturers in China is between 1,750 and 1,900 CNY per ton; the price for 47,20 ore is between 1,900 and 2,100 CNY per ton; and the tax-excluded quotation for 38 titanium intermediate ore is around 1,100 to 1,230 CNY per ton. It is expected that in the short term, the market will mainly remain stable with a stalemate.

According to customs data, China exported 134,800 tons of titanium dioxide in July 2025, a decrease of 15.55% year-on-year and an increase of 2.19% month-on-month; among which, 110,300 tons were produced by the sulfate process, an increase of 2.57% month-on-month. From January to July 2025, China exported a total of approximately 1,051,400 tons of titanium dioxide, a decrease of 7.14% year-on-year, or about 81,000 tons less. Among these, 201,800 tons were produced by the chloride process, a decrease of 3.12% year-on-year; and 849,600 tons were produced by the sulfate process, a decrease of 8.05% year-on-year.

According to customs data, in July 2025, China imported 7,307.17 tons of titanium dioxide, a decrease of 19.60% year-on-year and an increase of 49.48% month-on-month; of which 5,309.92 tons were imported by the chloride process. From January to July 2025, the total import of titanium dioxide was 47,000 tons, a decrease of 17.16% year-on-year. Among them, 18,200 tons of titanium dioxide were imported by the sulfate process, an increase of 6.47% year-on-year; and 28,900 tons of titanium dioxide were imported by the chloride process, a decrease of 27.32% year-on-year.

3. Future Market Forecast

Titanium dioxide analysts believe that the Chinese titanium dioxide market has stabilized after stopping its decline this month. Several titanium dioxide companies have issued letters to increase the prices of titanium dioxide, and the inventory of major manufacturers has slightly decreased. Some companies are implementing new prices, but the enthusiasm of downstream factories for purchasing is average, and the market is mostly observing the actions of leading enterprises next month. It is expected that in the short term, the market will mainly be in a stalemate with a wait-and-see attitude, and actual transaction prices will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
