The market trend of maleic anhydride continues to decline

ECHEMI 2025-09-02

September 1st news

According to the commodity analysis system, the recent maleic anhydride market in China has continued to decline. As of September 1st, the average market price for maleic anhydride produced by the n-butane oxidation method remained at 5605.00 CNY/ton, a decrease of 1.32% from 5680.00 CNY/ton on August 25th.

Supply: Recently, the maleic anhydride market in China has continued to decline slightly. The price at the Wanhua East China site has also decreased slightly, and the main maleic anhydride factories have followed with price reductions. Currently, Hubei Zhongneng's plant is selling liquid anhydride, and a total of 160,000 tons of plants in Shandong region are scheduled for maintenance in early September. Recently, downstream unsaturated resins manufacturers in China have mainly maintained just-in-time inventory and are adopting a wait-and-see attitude. As of September 1st, the factory price of solid anhydride in the Shandong region is operating around 5,300 CNY/ton, and the factory price of liquid anhydride is operating around 4,650 CNY/ton.

Upstream: Recently, the n-butane market has significantly declined, with prices in Shandong, China, around 4,510 CNY per ton as of September 1st.

Downstream: Currently, the market for unsaturated resins is weak and stable. The demand from downstream sectors for unsaturated resins is limited, and the prices of upstream raw materials are also weak, providing little support to the unsaturated resins market. The overall market situation is weak and in a phase of consolidation.

The maleic anhydride product analyst believes that the recent drop in the price of n-butane, which is upstream from maleic anhydride, has limited the cost support for maleic anhydride; coupled with the weak market for unsaturated resins, a major downstream sector, which has led to limited purchases of maleic anhydride. However, recent maintenance plans by maleic anhydride enterprises in Shandong and North China are expected to have a certain positive impact on the maleic anhydride market, leading to a slight increase in the market for maleic anhydride in the near future.
