EFSA Renews Authorisation of Inositol for Use in Fish and Crustacean Feed

ECHEMI 2025-11-02

On 23 October 2025, the European Food Safety Authority released its updated assessment on the renewal of authorisation for inositol as a nutritional feed additive for fish and crustaceans, confirming it remains safe for target species, consumers and the environment under existing conditions of use. The applicant demonstrated that the additive currently on the EU market continues to comply with the authorised specifications and that the production process has not changed. EFSA found no new evidence warranting a revision of its previous conclusions, and therefore did not require a new assessment of efficacy as part of the renewal. The Panel further confirmed that inositol does not irritate skin or eyes and is not a skin sensitiser, supporting its continued authorisation for use in aquaculture feed.
