BASF, Sinopec Forge Green Alliance to Power Nanjing Site with Certified Bio-Methane
A landmark agreement signed on November 26, 2025, marks a major leap in China’s industrial decarbonization journey. BASF, Sinopec Natural Gas Company, and their 50/50 joint venture Yangzi Petrochemical–BASF have committed to scaling the use of certified bio-methane at the Nanjing Integrated Site—one of Asia’s largest chemical complexes. Under the pact, Sinopec will supply ISCC+ certified bio-methane that meets stringent national standards, complete with verified carbon footprint data. The JV will then integrate this renewable gas directly into its production processes, reducing the carbon intensity of its output and enabling downstream customers to meet their own ESG targets. This initiative exemplifies how cross-sector collaboration—linking energy providers, chemical producers, and certification bodies—can turn sustainability pledges into tangible operational shifts. For BASF, it’s another milestone in its global ambition to achieve net-zero operations by 2050.
