Zydus Brings the First Keytruda Biosimilar Showdown to North America
Zydus Lifesciences has taken a major step into the global oncology biosimilar battlefield after announcing it will commercialize Formycon AG’s biosimilar version of Keytruda in the United States and Canada, marking one of the most strategically important biosimilar launches of the decade. Keytruda, Merck’s blockbuster anti-PD-1 antibody, is the world’s highest-selling cancer drug, and its biosimilar transition is expected to reshape immuno-oncology pricing worldwide. Under the agreement, Zydus will handle commercialization while Formycon retains development leadership, creating a transatlantic biosimilar alliance aimed directly at Merck’s stronghold. Analysts expect the move to ignite price competition in checkpoint inhibitors for the first time in North America, potentially unlocking access for thousands of patients while placing new margin pressure on originators.
