Lilly’s Mounjaro Enters China’s State Insurance System
Eli Lilly achieved a major market access milestone after Mounjaro was officially added to China’s national medical insurance list for diabetes treatment, dramatically improving affordability and penetration prospects across the country. The inclusion allows millions of Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes to access tirzepatide at reimbursed prices for the first time, accelerating domestic adoption. The decision also strengthens Lilly’s competitive position against Novo Nordisk in the world’s largest diabetes market. Industry analysts view the move as a turning point for high-end metabolic biologics in China’s reimbursement system, signaling a broader willingness to cover premium innovation.
