Did you catch the food rumors?

Food safety is a topic of great concern to the people. The so-called concern is chaotic. Rumors about food seem to have a periodic transmission law. Every once in a while, they will spread in the network and the circle of friends and get a lot of forwarding. To this end, the China Food Anti-rumour Alliance combed the recent food rumors. What rumors have you believed in in the last three months of 2019?
Rumor: Eating eggs increases the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Recently, a new study in the United States showed that people who eat half an extra egg a day have a 6% increased risk of cardiovascular disease and an 8% increased risk of premature death.
Media reports, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association said that a follow-up survey of 30,000 Americans found that people who ate half an extra egg a day had a 6% increased risk of cardiovascular disease and an 8% increased risk of premature death. Additional 300 mg of dietary cholesterol per day increases the risk of heart disease by 17% and premature death by 18%, the study also points out. It is worth noting that the cholesterol content of an egg is as high as 186 mg. Ruan Guangfeng, a member of the expert group of the China Food Anti-rumour Alliance, said that the research results of the past two decades generally showed that eating eggs properly did not increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. For healthy people with normal serum cholesterol levels, dietary intake of one egg per day increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Based on this result, the latest dietary guidelines in China and the United States have eliminated the dietary cholesterol limit. The rumor that chocolate is about to disappear in 30 years has aroused great repercussions. Foreign media say that chocolate may go extinct in 30 years due to global warming. If the pace of global warming continues, it will make it increasingly difficult for cocoa trees, the raw material for chocolate production, to survive in warming climates. As soon as the news came out, chocolate lovers howled and expressed their desire to eat a piece immediately. This is actually an old story. At the end of 2017, foreign media reported that under the influence of global warming, the raw material of chocolate, the cocoa tree, will become more and more difficult to survive, and chocolate will go extinct in 40 years. In early 2018, the British media again reported that the 40-year period was reduced directly to 30 years, sending out a heartfelt soul torture: "Do we have chocolate to eat?"
But soon the big officials began to refute the rumors. Li Fupeng, an associate researcher at the Institute of Spices and Beverages, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, believes that the idea that global warming will lead to extinction is too arbitrary. Global warming may have an impact on cocoa species, but more is the harm of drought or flooding. Temperature itself is not a problem. He said that cocoa can also be cultivated in greenhouses in Guangdong, Zhejiang and Beijing, as long as temperature and humidity are well controlled.
Rumor : Frequent eating of bread can cause cancer
Recently, eating bread has also been associated with cancer. According to an article forwarded by a platform official, a 14-year-old girl often eats bread for breakfast and has bowel cancer. There's another kid who's got kidney cancer because he's been eating bread for a long time. Therefore, it is concluded that children often eat bread for breakfast and excessive intake of fine cereals will lead to colon and kidney cancer, which arouses questions from netizens.
In this regard, the experts concerned believe that cancer is a serious chronic disease, not a single factor can cause cancer, even if there are many carcinogenic factors working together, the formation of cancer is not overnight. Food is, of course, one of the causes of various diseases, including cancer, but it is only one of them. Besides, there is a problem of accumulation and dosage. Experts explained that the biggest shortcoming of eating bread was that it was made from fine flour. This can destroy some vitamins in the production process, such as vitamin A, vitamin B and vitamin C. If you eat delicate food for a long time, it will cause nutritional imbalance, and may produce some minor diseases, such as glossitis, dry skin and so on. At present, most of the so-called carcinogenic foods have no scientific basis, such as claims that instant noodles and soybean milk are carcinogenic. There are also a few controversial issues, such as whether overnight leftovers cause cancer, which is still being discussed in the academic community. But in any case, the theory of bread carcinogenesis is unreliable. Rumor of
Rumor: Most of the heavy metals in hollow cabbage exceed the standard
Recently, there is a rumor that hollow cabbage is a hollow structure, and grows in sewage, it is easy to absorb heavy metals, so most of the hollow cabbage on the market exceed the standard, and no one eats it abroad at all. Experts said that the hollow structure of hollow cabbage is correct, but the idea of planting hollow cabbage in sewage is hollow. Because of the high water quality requirements of hollow cabbage, if the water quality does not meet the standard, hollow cabbage can not grow and survive at all.
Zhu Yi, associate professor of Food Science and Nutrition Engineering College of China Agricultural University, told Sci-tech Daily that hollow cabbage is a fast-growing green leafy vegetable, which can grow in dry paddy fields, but aquatic hollow cabbage is bigger than that in dry land. Zhu Yi said that the heavy metal content of hollow cabbage itself depends on the heavy metal content of soil and water in the planting environment, and there will be no excessive heavy metal content in hollow cabbage grown in clean environment. On the contrary, if the planting environment is not up to the national standard, even if the crops do not like to adsorb heavy metals, it is estimated that it will be difficult to meet the national standard.
