Evonik Starts Up 100,000 t/y Alkoxylates Plant in Singapore to Meet Surging Asian Demand
Evonik has officially inaugurated its new alkoxylates production facility on Jurong Island, Singapore, with a capacity of 100,000 tonnes per year. The plant is now the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, strengthening the company’s regional supply network and supporting growing demand across key Asian markets.
Announced in 2023, the facility will primarily serve Asia’s fast-rising alkoxylates demand, much of it tied to the expansion of biodiesel, home and personal care, and specialty chemical applications. “Demand for biodiesel continues to climb, especially in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand,” said Klaus Rettig, President of Evonik Asia Pacific.
By situating production close to customers, Evonik aims to improve both supply security and operational flexibility. “This investment not only enhances our ability to serve the region, but also contributes to Singapore’s vision of becoming a hub for a sustainable chemical industry,” added Laurens Kilsen, COO of Evonik’s Specialty Additives division.
The new Singapore plant joins Evonik’s global network of alkoxylates facilities in Germany, Argentina, and the United States, marking a significant expansion of the company’s downstream surfactants and additives portfolio.
Bottom line: Evonik’s Jurong Island investment underscores both the strategic importance of Asia in global chemical demand and Singapore’s role as a cornerstone in the region’s sustainable chemical value chain.
