Carbon announced a reduction in the price of epoxy
Carbon announced price cuts for its most widely used resins, EPX82, EPU41 and RPU70. EPX82 (epoxy resin), EPU41 (elastomeric polyurethane) and RPU70 (rigid polyurethane) can be purchased in batches at a price of $50 per litre. Carbon said the company was supplying these products at lower prices to provide viable production tools for large-scale digital parts production in various markets.
Carbon also fulfilled its promise made a year ago that when RPU70 resin is offered at a bulk discount through the Carbon Material Program, the price will be less than $100 per litre. The company announced the news at the Formnext Frankfurt International Exhibition on Precision Molding and 3D Printing Manufacturing, which Joseph DeSimone, Carbon's chief executive, believes will bring new opportunities and applications.
Dr. Joseph DeSimone, CEO and co-founder of Carbon, commented: "As more and more manufacturers apply these next-generation technologies to production processes and supply chains, global demand for mass-produced digital manufacturing is growing rapidly. Carbon has made digital manufacturing a reality, and the rapid growth of demand for mass production has prompted us to reduce resin prices as much as possible. This will create new high-value applications and opportunities that were previously impossible to achieve and help transform the estimated $10 billion 3D printing world into a multi-billion dollar industry. The three core materials for the latest price reduction are RPU70, EPX82 and EPU41. RPU70 is a kind of material with wide use, good toughness, good rigidity and comparable with ABS. EPX82 has the advantages of rigidity, high strength and high temperature resistance, which can be comparable with glass filled PBT mainly used for electrical connectors. At the same time, EPU41 is a high elastic and tear resistant material, comparable to the traditional TPU elastomer, and can be used in footwear, sporting goods, robots, artificial limbs, gaskets and seals. Carbon also announced this week four new European service providers, Complete Fabrications, ErproGroup, Kurz and Rapid Product Manufacturing, as new production partners. With these companies, Carbon Production Network (CPN) now has more than 35 global members.
"Digital manufacturing technology has evolved from the early stage of traditional 3D printing for prototype applications to a comprehensive digital manufacturing system," said Dana McCallum, director of Carbon's production partners. "An important component of Carbon's strategy is to provide many advantages of digital manufacturing to manufacturers around the world. As part of Carbon's production network, our partners have a truly scalable, complete digital manufacturing platform that provides faster process flow and creates high-quality end-use components with injection-moulding-like characteristics.
