Can Paint Really Release Negative Ions?

Can building materials really absorb formaldehyde and release negative ions?
In theory, building materials can achieve this function by adding certain ingredients. For the absorption of formaldehyde, the most mentioned are mainly photocatalysts. Under the excitation of light, free formaldehyde is eliminated by capturing free radicals. Coating products can also eliminate formaldehyde through a similar principle.
The occurrence of negative ions is generally generated by lightning and plant photosynthesis in nature. Adding tourmaline powder to building materials can also release negative ions. Tourmaline will metabolize and decompose when heated in the air, producing a weak current, and the release amount is also long-term; and negative ions can also have the function of formaldehyde capture.
Although building materials can theoretically absorb formaldehyde and release negative ions, the two experts also said that in practical applications, the effect is often greatly reduced. Tourmaline can release negative ions, but the amount released depends on the amount added.
This kind of thing is very expensive, and adding it in large quantities will greatly increase the cost of the manufacturer, but it needs to be added in large quantities to be effective. To make the tourmaline powder release negative ions, it also needs to be crushed into nano-sized particles, otherwise the effect will be very poor.
For the photocatalyst's formaldehyde absorption effect, the light needs to reach a certain intensity and the energy is high enough to be effective. Generally speaking, blue light and purple light are required, and the ordinary light effect is poor.
As for the test reports presented by some merchants, Hu Xiaohong said that the products submitted for inspection can be specially made for inspection, and the test time is short, which cannot prove whether the materials are effective for a long time in practical application.
Paint products are currently the most stringent is the European 'A+' standard. From the perspective of health and environmental protection, consumers are better off choosing products from large companies that meet the 'A+' standard.
