5 Chinese Pharmaceutical Companies Authorized to Produce Key Ingredients of Pfizer's COVID-19 Oral Drug

A few days ago, the Geneva Medicines PatentPool, MPP announced that it has signed agreements with 35 pharmaceutical companies to allow them to produce nirmatrelvir APIs and/or preparations, one of the components of Pfizer's new crown oral drug Paxlovid.


5 Chinese companies have been authorized by Paxlovid

According to the agreement, 6 of the 35 companies will focus on the production of APIs, 9 will be responsible for the production of preparations, and the remaining 20 companies will produce both APIs and preparations.

 

They are located in 12 countries, namely Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Jordan, India, Israel, Mexico, Pakistan, South Korea, Vietnam, Serbia, Dominican Republic. Another Ukrainian company was unable to sign the agreement due to the conflict, but the license is still valid.

 

This includes 5 Chinese companies, namely Shanghai Desano, Huahai Pharmaceutical, Puluo Pharmaceutical, Fosun Pharmaceutical, and Jiuzhou Pharmaceutical. Puluo Pharmaceuticals and Kyushu only produce APIs, while the other three can produce APIs and preparations at the same time.

 


5 Chinese companies have obtained relevant authorizations for Molnupiravir

Previously, on January 20, MPP announced that it had signed an agreement with 27 generic drug companies to manufacture Merck's oral COVID-19 antiviral drug molnupiravir and supply it to 105 low- and middle-income countries. This agreement allows generic drug manufacturers Manufacture of molnupiravir APIs and/or formulations. Among the 27 companies, 5 companies will focus on the production of APIs, 13 companies will produce both APIs and formulations, and 9 companies will produce formulations. These companies are located all over the world, including Bangladesh, China, Egypt/Jordan, India, Indonesia , Kenya, Pakistan, South Africa and other 11 countries.

 

Among them, 5 Chinese pharmaceutical companies have obtained generic drug qualifications, namely Fosun Pharma, Longze Pharma, Borui Pharma, Desano Pharma and Langhua Pharma. Among them, Fosun Pharma, Longze Pharma, Borui Pharma, Di Sano Pharma. Sinopharm is licensed to produce both the bulk drug and finished drug of Molnupiravir, while Langhua Pharmaceuticals is licensed to produce the bulk drug of Molnupiravir.

 

It can be seen that Fosun Pharma and Shanghai Desano have obtained the relevant authorizations of Molnupiravir and Paxlovid at the same time.
