BASF Expands Synthetic Ester Base Oil Production Capacity in China

ECHEMI 2022-03-22

Recently, BASF announced that it will almost double the production capacity of synthetic ester base oils at its Jinshan base in China. According to BASF, the investment is in response to the growing demand for high-performance lubricants in the Asia-Pacific region and further strengthens BASF's position as a reliable supplier to support the growth of customers in the region. The capacity expansion is expected to be fully completed in the second half of 2022.

Synthetic ester base stocks are an important component in high-performance lubricant formulations and offer several sustainability benefits. Applications include environmentally friendly refrigeration and air conditioning, automotive and industrial lubricants. BASF said that the new production capacity for synthetic ester base oils will bring additional supply security to customers in the Asia-Pacific region. On the basis of downstream integration of key raw materials, BASF will make full use of BASF's full strength as a leading supplier to the lubricant industry.
