More than 30 pickled vegetable enterprises in Huarong County have been suspended from March 16
Affected by the incident, more than 30 pickled vegetable enterprises in Huarong County have been suspended from March 16, all enterprises need to carry out self-examination and self-correction, and make immediate improvements.
A Huarong County government insider told Interface News that the "Dukeng Pickle" incident will hit Huarong County's pickle industry hard, "Pickle is the pillar industry of Huarong County, this incident has a very big impact on the industry, so to speak, is a big blow."
Huarong County is known as the "home of mustard", in 2008, "Huarong mustard" was certified as a national geographical indication protection product for agricultural products. According to the Huarong County government website, by 2017, Huarong County mustard planting area of 220,000 mu.
Mustard as raw material pickle industry also in Huarong County gradually developed and grew, pickle processing enterprises reached more than 39, mustard industry employs more than 130,000 people, the total output value reached 4.3 billion yuan.

As one of the larger vegetable reprocessing enterprises in Huarong County, according to the official website of the vegetable industry, the company is a leading enterprise of provincial agricultural products, transferring 2,000 mu of farmers' land and having four modern vegetable processing production lines.
Zhang Hongxing, head of a vegetable processing enterprise in Huarong County, told Interface News that the incident was actually hit hardest by the mustard farmers.
Every year after harvesting mustard, growers usually sell part of it directly to the enterprise, and part of it is cured in the earth cellar in the field itself before selling it to the enterprise.
The current mustard harvest is in full swing, and with the entire industry shut down, it is impossible to buy and pickle fresh vegetables, which will rot in the hands of farmers if they cannot get rid of them within a week or two.
Grower Gu Cui-fen is a farmer who is new to mustard farming. She told Interface News that last year, she scraped together a few hundred thousand yuan to contract 150 mu of mustard land because she heard from a friend that it was now profitable to grow mustard.
Now, there are still more than 80 mu of mustard in the field that needs to be harvested within a week, "otherwise it will be too old to use". Moreover, the 70 mu of fresh vegetables harvested by Gu Cui Fen also need to be put in the cellar as soon as possible, "I borrowed 100,000 yuan in foreign debt just to buy salt (for pickling), and I'm in a hurry."
Niu Defa has been growing mustard for 20 years and now has 500 mu of mustard land, considered one of the major local growers.
After the local mustard industry shut down, he still needs to hire 50 workers a day to go to the field to harvest, "can not waste, from the ground after the collection is still a bit (back to the capital) hope." Niu Defa said he had been unable to sleep for the last two days and carefully calculated his business, "The cost of growing one mu of mustard is about 1,200 yuan to 1,300 yuan. At most 20 days, the 500 mu of vegetables must be put down in the cellar, or I will have to go bankrupt."
