Air Liquide joins hands with car companies to develop hydrogen energy transportation

ECHEMI 2022-06-06

Air Liquide, CaetanoBus and Toyota Motor Europe have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop integrated hydrogen solutions. The cooperation includes developing infrastructure and building a fleet to accelerate the development of hydrogen energy in light and heavy vehicles. Through this collaboration, the three parties will work together to contribute to the decarbonization of transport and to accelerate the development of the local hydrogen ecosystem for multiple mobility applications.

It is reported that the three companies will apply complementary expertise to jointly develop the entire hydrogen mobility value chain, from renewable or low-carbon hydrogen production, distribution and hydrogenation infrastructure, to deployment in different vehicle sectors. The focus will be on buses, light commercial vehicles and sedans first, followed by an accelerated development of the heavy-duty truck segment. Air Liquide is responsible for cooperation in infrastructure and hydrogen refueling stations, and integrates different applications and projects in the hydrogen energy ecosystem to promote the further maturity of the overall hydrogen energy infrastructure.

Matthieu Giard, Vice President and Member of the Executive Committee of Air Liquide, said: “As a key solution to reducing CO2 emissions from the transport sector, low-carbon hydrogen is an important driver of the energy transition. Air Liquide is delighted to be working with Toyota and CaetanoBus. Creating an efficient ecosystem is critical and will facilitate the rise of hydrogen mobility in Europe. Air Liquide has been developing the entire hydrogen value chain for over 50 years and will provide expertise in low-carbon hydrogen production and hydrogen mobility infrastructure development expertise. This collaboration demonstrates the industry’s ability to provide concrete solutions to combat climate change.”
