Maoming Petrochemical Ethylene Cracking Unit Burst into Fire! Downstream PP, PE and Other Products Have Been Stopped!
At about 12:45 on June 8, a spherical tank pump of Maoming Petrochemical Chemical Division leaked, causing the intermediate tank of the aromatics unit of the ethylene cracker to catch fire. The leaders of Maoming Municipal Government, emergency, fire protection and high-tech zones and leaders of Maoming Petrochemical Company have arrived at the scene for disposal, and the fire has now been brought under control.
It is understood that the fault involves the 2# cracking unit. At present, the 250,000-ton/year 2# LDPE unit has been shut down, and the start-up time is to be determined. Polyethylene involves grades: 2426H, 2426K, 2520D, etc. 2# polypropylene plant 300,000 tons/year and 3# polypropylene plant 200,000 tons/year temporarily shut down. Polypropylene involves grades: HT9025NX, F4908, K8003, K7227, UT8012M, etc.
Another 1# cracking scheduled to start on June 9 is now to be started. The involved polyethylene units are: 110,000 tons/year 1# LDPE unit and 220,000 tons/year full density unit. The 1# LDPE plant involves grades 951-000, 951-050, 1850A, etc.; the full-density plant involves grades 7042, 2720A, etc. The involved polypropylene plant is: 1# polypropylene 170,000 tons/year plant.
Maoming Petrochemical currently has a crude oil processing capacity of 20 million tons/year and an ethylene production capacity of 1.1 million tons/year. It also has thermal power, ports, railway transportation, crude oil and refined oil pipelines, and a 300,000-ton single-point mooring offshore crude oil handling system. It is one of the state-owned refining and chemical enterprises with the largest production scale, the best economic benefits and the most solid development foundation in China, and the main supplier of refined oil, chemical raw materials and military oil products in South China and Southwest China. An important guarantee force for energy security, and the vanguard of high-quality development of state-owned refining and chemical enterprises. At present, Maoming Petrochemical has 22 sets of main production units including cracking, high-density polyethylene, full-density polyethylene, high-pressure polyethylene, polypropylene, styrene and synthetic rubber, as well as complete auxiliary production systems and public works systems. There are more than 200 varieties of resin, synthetic rubber, liquid organic chemical raw materials and other series products totaling more than 3.8 million tons.
