In August, the national crude steel output increased by 9.3%

A few days ago, the Development and Reform Commission released the operation of the iron and steel industry in August, showing that in August, the national crude steel output was 87.25 million tons, an increase of 9.3% compared with the same period last year, while the steel output was 106.39 million tons, an increase of 9.8%. From January to August 2019, China's crude steel output reached 66.48.7 million tons, an increase of 9.1% over the same period last year, and steel output reached 80.36.7 million tons, an increase of 11%. The details are as follows.
In August, the national crude steel output increased by 9.3% and 6.6 percentage points over the same period, while the steel output increased by 9.8% and 3.4 percentage points over the same period. Coke production reached 40 million tons, up 4.6%, down 1.1% in the same period last year. The output of ferroalloys increased by 6.6% to 2.81 million tons, and by 4.5 percentage points. Steel exports amounted to 50.1 million tons (customs statistics), a decrease of 560,000 tons over the previous month; imports amounted to 970,000 tons, an increase of 130,000 tons over the previous month. Iron ore imports amounted to 94.85 million tons, an increase of 3.83 million tons over the previous month; coke exports amounted to 440,000 tons, a decrease of 50,000 tons over the previous month.
From January to August, the national crude steel output increased by 9.1% over the same period of last year, increasing by 3.3 percentage points over the same period of last year; the steel output increased by 11% to 8.0367 million tons, increasing by 3.9 percentage points. Coke output was 314.77 million tons, up 6.7%, down 2.9% in the same period last year. Ferroalloy output was 22.57 million tons, up 11.8%, 7 percentage points. Steel exports of 44.97 million tons (customs statistics), down 4.4% year-on-year; imports of 7.64 million tons, down 12.8%. Iron ore imports dropped by 3.5% to 684.85 million tons. Coke exports were 4.77 million tons, down 25.4%.
Steel prices fell compared with last month. In August, the composite index of steel prices in the domestic market averaged 106.85 points, down 3.05 points from last month and 13.71 points from a year earlier. The average price of 8mm high-speed line is 4066 CNY/ton, which is 4.7% lower than last month and 12.7% lower than last month. The average price of 20mm medium plate was 3910 CNY/ton, down 2.4% from last month and 12.7% from the same period last year. The average price of 1.0mm cold rolled coil is 4370 CNY/ton, which is 0.4% higher than that of last month and 10.1% lower than that of last month.
