BASF's Port Arthur Chemical Complex Still Running Despite Harvey
Germany’s BASF on Wednesday said its major chemical production sites in Texas, Port Arthur and Freeport, remain operational for now despite Tropical Storm Harvey, but the company is keeping close watch because supply lines could be at risk.
“Logistics for sites in Texas is particularly challenging,” a spokeswoman for BASF, one of the world’s largest chemical producers, said in a written statement.
BASF’s smaller Texan sites in Beaumont, Bishop and Pasadena had to be shut down, it added.
Harvey was set to make landfall again on Wednesday near the Texas-Louisiana border, adding more precipitation after a record rainfall that has caused catastrophic flooding and paralysed the city of Houston.
