Canadian company receives FDA approval for natural preservative
More than a month after securing Series A funding, Canadian food technology startup Chinova Bioworks received a no objection letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration regarding its new preservative ingredient and allowed the ingredient to be used in food products.
The ingredient is described as a natural food and beverage preservative derived from white mushrooms and is suitable for addition to plant-based meats, plant-based milks, baked goods and other foods.
The company also revealed that it is currently conducting research on a new mushroom-based product to replace synthetic refiners needed in the production of wine and beer.
