The project is jointly built by Dongfang Steam Turbine and Bairan New Energy Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., School of Energy and Power Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Beijing Honghui International Energy Technology Development Co., Ltd. The project covers an area of 18,000 square meters, which is about the size of two and a half football fields. The energy storage scale is 10MW/20MWh. It can store 20,000 kWh of electricity in 2 hours. The world's first carbon dioxide + flywheel energy storage integrated energy station.

When the electricity consumption is low, this "charging treasure" turns on the charging mode, the compressor starts, and it can compress all the carbon dioxide gas with a volume of 250,000 cubic meters in the huge flexible gas tank into liquid in 2 hours, and the volume is only 1 /300; when the peak of electricity consumption comes, it will return to the gaseous state and push the turbine to generate electricity. It also only takes 2 hours to generate 20,000 kWh of electricity, which is enough for more than 60 households to use for 1 month.

As the compressor starts up and steadily increases to the rated speed, the carbon dioxide gas is extracted and compressed from the huge flexible gas tank, marking the official completion of the world's first carbon dioxide + flywheel energy storage demonstration project, which is presented to the world, which is also the world in 2022. The partners of the project rely on more than ten years of accumulated experience in new material and system design integration, research and development and engineering application experience in new energy systems and carbon dioxide power equipment, and the first domestic supercritical carbon dioxide system compressor/turbine operating at full load. The carbon dioxide energy storage system has a wide range of power levels, capacities and regional adaptability, and has excellent economic benefits in large-capacity long-term energy storage, especially suitable for 10MW, 100MW and 1000MW long-term energy storage systems. The system can not only be matched with new energy sources such as solar power and wind power to effectively make up for the weakness of its inability to provide stable and continuous power supply, but also can be used with traditional thermal power as a power compensation for small load conditions when traditional thermal power operates flexibly.
