Analysis of Polymeric MDI Import in Q1-3, 2017

Introduction: From January to September 2017, China imported 171,180.13mt of polymeric MDI in total, which was up 6.85% from the same period of last year. The export volume was 439,550.14mt of MDI, increasing 35.37% from the same period of last year. The goods from Sadara has become the focus in the market.

In Q3, 2017, China started to import polymeric MDI from Saudi Arabia. The 400kt/a unit of Sadara was put into operation in 2017 and started to supply goods in September 2017. The total volume was 2,340mt. In October, the import volume from Sadara is expected to reach more than 5,000mt.

From January to September 2017, around 107,761.023mt of polymeric MDI were imported via Shanghai Customs, accounting around 63% of the total. Qingdao Customs ranked the second and the import volume was 16,499.511mt. Huangpu Customs ranked the third place and the import volume was 12,961.668mt.

From January to September 2017, general trade was the major trade mode. Around 138,002.034mt of MDI were imported via the general trade.
