It is also used as an auxiliary treatment for peripheral neuritis, indigestion, etc. 2. Vitamin B1 supplementation for malnutrition caused by total parenteral nutrition or insufficient intake. 3. The requirement for vitamin B1 increases in the following situations: pregnancy or lactation, hyperthyroidism, burns, hemodialysis, long-term chronic infection, fever, heavy physical labor, malabsorption syndrome with hepatobiliary system diseases (liver damage, alcoholism with cirrhosis), small intestinal diseases (celiac disease, tropical sprue, regional enteritis, persistent diarrhea, ileal resection) and after gastrectomy. 4. Large amounts of vitamin B1 can improve symptoms of the following hereditary enzyme deficiency diseases: subacute necrotizing encephalomyelopathy (Leigh disease), branched-chain amino acid disease, lactic acidosis and intermittent cerebellar ataxia.
