Hypertensive encephalopathy refers to an acute cerebral circulation disorder syndrome caused by a sharp and sustained increase in blood pressure during the course of hypertension. Any type of hypertension can cause hypertensive encephalopathy as long as the blood pressure rises significantly, but it is more common in patients with normal blood pressure who suddenly develop hypertension, such as acute glomerulonephritis, pregnancy poisoning, etc. It is also prone to patients with rapid or severe slow-onset hypertension accompanied by obvious cerebral arteriosclerosis. In addition to the sudden increase in blood pressure, it is often accompanied by severe headaches and changes in consciousness, and sometimes limb movement disorders. Fundus examination shows localized or diffuse retinal arteriolar spasm, but not necessarily bleeding, exudation or edema, and can recover quickly after antihypertensive treatment.
