Nonketotic hyperglycemic coma
Hyperosmolar diabetic coma (HNDC) is a rare, severe acute complication of diabetes, which is more common in elderly patients with no history of diabetes or mild non-insulin-dependent diabetes, but can also be seen in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes. The patient's original insulin secretion is insufficient, and the blood sugar rises rapidly under the influence of inducements, which promotes the aggravation of sugar metabolism disorders, causing the extracellular fluid to be hyperosmotic, hypovolemic hyperosmotic dehydration, and the original arteriosclerosis causing insufficient blood supply and hypoxia in the cerebral cortex, resulting in mental and neurological symptoms and coma.
