Acute corrosive gastritis
Acute corrosive gastritis is caused by self-ingestion or accidental ingestion of strong acids (such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid, Lysol) or strong alkalis (such as sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide) and other corrosive agents, which cause degeneration, erosion, ulceration or necrosis of the gastric mucosa. The early clinical manifestations are severe pain behind the sternum and in the upper abdomen, which may lead to bleeding or perforation in severe cases, and esophageal stenosis in the late stage.
