Lung abscess in children
Lung abscess refers to an inflammatory lesion of the lung parenchyma caused by various bacterial infections, which leads to necrosis and liquefaction, forming a cavity containing pus. It is mainly secondary to pneumonia, and secondarily complicated by sepsis. Occasionally, purulent lesions in adjacent tissues, such as liver abscess, subphrenic abscess or empyema, spread to the lungs. In addition, compression by tumors or foreign bodies can cause bronchial obstruction and secondary purulent infection. Lung flukes, roundworms and amoebas can also cause lung abscesses. Primary or secondary immunodeficiency and the use of immunosuppressive drugs can promote its occurrence.
