Severe episodes may affect the normal activities of children, while the symptoms are normal during the intervals between episodes. The incidence rate in the general pediatric population is slightly >10%, and the ratio of male to female children is 3:4. RAP is rare before the age of 4 to 5 years old, and occurs most frequently in children aged 8 to 10 years old. Girls may experience a second peak of incidence during puberty.
