Essential thrombocythemia in the elderly
Primary thrombocytosis is a clonal disease characterized by abnormal proliferation of megakaryocytes with thrombocytosis, morphological and functional abnormalities. The main clinical features are a significant and persistent increase in platelets for unknown reasons, and a tendency to bleed and form blood clots. More than half of patients have splenomegaly.
