Pregnancy complicated by rheumatoid arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), also known as RA for short, is a chronic, progressive autoimmune disease with joint lesions as the main feature. The cause is unknown, but it is generally believed to be an autoimmune reaction caused by infection. It is characterized by symmetrical polyarthritis, with the hands, wrists, elbows, knees, ankles and feet being the most common joints, but other joints throughout the body may also be affected. In addition to joints, extra-articular systemic manifestations such as rheumatoid subcutaneous nodules, arteritis, nervous system lesions, keratitis, pericarditis, lymphadenopathy and splenomegaly are also common.
