Empyema in children
Pyothorax refers to the accumulation of pus in the pleural cavity, so it is also called purulent pleurisy. It is most common in infants and young children. Generally, after the thoracentesis fluid is left to settle in the test tube for 24 hours, 1/10 to 1/2 should be solid. If it is less than 1/10, it is called pleural effusion.
