Band keratopathy
Band shaped corneal degenration, also known as corneal band opacity and calcific band keratopathy, is a corneal lesion caused by calcium deposits under the corneal epithelium. It is usually divided into two types: primary and secondary. Band shaped corneal degenration can occur with or without calcium deposits. Band shaped corneal degeneration without calcium deposits can occur during progressive corneal spheroidal degeneration. In general, band shaped corneal degeneration refers to corneal lesions with calcium deposits. Clinically, common corneal band degeneration is secondary to ocular or systemic lesions.
