Glimepiride

It is an oral sulfonylurea hypoglycemic drug that works mainly by stimulating pancreatic β cells to release insulin. The effect of glimepiride on stimulating pancreatic β cells to release insulin is mainly based on increasing the responsiveness of pancreatic β cells to physiological concentrations of glucose. In addition, glimepiride also has obvious effects outside the pancreas, including improving peripheral tissue sensitivity to insulin, reducing the liver's uptake of insulin, increasing the number of active glucose transfer molecules in the cytoplasmic membrane of muscle and fat cells to stimulate glucose uptake, increasing the activity of glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol-specific phosphatidic acid C, and inhibiting the production of glucose in the liver.
