Function and Efficacy

The mechanism of action of this product has not been fully elucidated; it may be almost completely degraded into valproic acid by the action of intestinal microorganisms before entering the human circulation, and appear in the blood in the form of valproic acid. Experiments have confirmed that this product can increase the synthesis of r-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and reduce the degradation of GABA, thereby increasing the concentration of inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, reducing the excitation of neurons and inhibiting seizures.

Indication

This product can regulate neurological dysfunction and is used to prevent and treat various types of epilepsy.

Usage and Dosage

Oral administration: Adults: 0.6-1.2 g per day, divided into 3 doses. Children: 10-30 mg/kg per day, divided into 2-3 doses.

Adverse Reactions

1. In the early stage of treatment, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, fatigue, increased or decreased appetite and other reactions are common, which generally disappear on their own. 2. It can cause changes in the menstrual cycle. 3. Less common are transient hair loss, headaches, allergies, hand tremors, nightmares, restlessness and irritability. 4. Long-term use may occasionally cause pancreatitis and acute liver necrosis. 5. It may cause thrombocytopenia, purpura, bleeding and prolonged bleeding time, and blood counts should be checked regularly. 6. It is harmful to liver function, and liver function should be checked after 2 months of use. 7. Occasionally there may be unsteady walking, blurred vision, swollen eyes, tinnitus, and breast enlargement. 8. Occasionally there may be hearing loss and reversible hearing damage.

Precautions

1. Patients with a personal or family history of drug-induced jaundice are contraindicated. 2. Patients with liver disease or obvious liver damage are contraindicated.

Special Population Medication

Precautions for children: The product can accumulate in developing bones, so be careful. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: This product can pass through the placenta. Animal experiments have reported that valproic acid is teratogenic. In clinical applications, breast enlargement and reduced lactation are occasionally seen. Pregnant women should weigh the pros and cons and use with caution. Precautions for the elderly: Not yet clear.
