Ampicillin Capsules

Function and Efficacy

It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. Its antibacterial effect on most G bacteria is not as good as penicillin G, but it is more effective than penicillin on negative bacteria. Its mechanism of action is the same as penicillin. However, enterococci are more sensitive to this product, and its effect on G-bacteria is weaker than kanamycin and gentamicin, and similar to tetracycline. It has a stronger antibacterial effect on Salmonella typhi and Escherichia coli, while Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus are resistant to this product. It is mainly used to treat sepsis, urinary tract infection, lung infection, biliary tract infection, etc. caused by sensitive bacteria; its efficacy in treating typhoid and paratyphoid is similar to that of chloramphenicol. This product has a higher concentration in cerebrospinal fluid during meningitis, and is also suitable for treating meningitis caused by pneumococcus, meningococcus and influenza bacillus. Combining it with other semi-synthetic penicillins, aminoglycosides and chloramphenicol can enhance the efficacy.
