Function and Efficacy

Vinblastine sulfate is a cytotoxic drug that works by binding to tubulin in mitosis, preventing it from further aggregation to form francium cones, thereby arresting cell growth at metaphase.

Indication

It is mainly used for the treatment of solid tumors. It has good effects on malignant lymphoma, testicular tumors, and choriocarcinoma. It also has certain effects on lung cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, skin cancer, Wilms tumor, and monocytic leukemia. It can also be used to treat Hodgkin's disease and malignant lymphoma, and choriocarcinoma and breast cancer.

Usage and Dosage

1. Intravenous injection: The adult dose is 150 μg (generally 10 mg) per kilogram of body weight, and the child dose is 250 μg per kilogram of body weight. Dilute with 20-30 ml of isotonic saline or 5% glucose and inject intravenously or flush during infusion, once a week. The first dose can be small, and the dose can be increased as needed, but generally each dose should not exceed 300 μg per kilogram of body weight. Generally, 4-6 weeks, with a total amount of 60-100 mg, constitute a course of treatment. 2. Thoracic and abdominal cavity injection: 10-30 mg each time.

Adverse Reactions

In addition to bone marrow suppression, there may also be gastrointestinal reactions, which are generally mild, and peripheral neuritis, such as pain in the limbs, numbness of the finger (toe) tips, muscle tremors, loss of tendon reaction, and a few may have headaches and mental depression. Others include hair loss, insomnia, and postural hypotension.

Precautions

Patients with leukopenia.

Drug Interactions

When used in combination with mitomycin, it can cause acute respiratory distress and pulmonary infiltration.
