Ipratropium bromide solution for inhalation
Function and Efficacy
Atrovent is a quaternary ammonium compound with anticholinergic (parasympathetic) properties. Preclinical trials have shown that it inhibits vagal reflexes by antagonizing the neurotransmitter acetylcholine released by the vagus nerve. Anticholinergic drugs can prevent the increase in intracellular cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) concentration caused by the interaction between acetylcholine and muscarinic receptors on bronchial smooth muscle. The bronchodilator effect of inhaled Atrovent is basically the anticholinergic effect of the drug produced locally on the bronchial smooth muscle, rather than a systemic effect. A 90-day controlled study of patients with bronchospasm caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (chronic bronchitis and emphysema) produced significant improvements in lung function (FEV1 and FEF25-75% increase) within 15 minutes of treatment.

Indication
As a bronchodilator, it is used to maintain bronchospasm caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. brAtrovent can be used in combination with an inhaled beta-agonist to treat acute bronchospasm caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including chronic bronchitis and asthma.
Usage and Dosage

Adverse Reactions
The most common non-respiratory adverse reactions in clinical trials are headache, nausea and dry mouth. Due to the low intestinal absorption of Atrovent (ipratropium bromide), anticholinergic side effects such as tachycardia, palpitations, eye adjustment disorders, gastrointestinal motility disorders and urinary retention are rare and reversible, but the risk of urinary retention is increased in patients with existing urinary tract obstruction. Ocular side effects have been reported (see [Precautions]). Like other inhaled bronchodilators, Atrovent may cause cough, local irritation, and rarely bronchoconstriction caused by inhalation irritation. Allergic reactions such as rash, angioedema of the tongue, lips, and face, urticaria, laryngospasm and anaphylaxis have been reported.
Precautions
Those who are allergic to the ingredients of this drug and atropine drugs.
Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: Studies in children over 6 years of age have confirmed the bronchodilator effect of Atrovent in the treatment of acute bronchospasm caused by asthma. In these studies, Atrovent is usually used in combination with an inhaled beta-agonist. Although clinical data are limited, Atrovent has shown good effects in the treatment of bronchospasm caused by viral bronchitis and pulmonary bronchodysplasia in infants and young children. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: The safety of Atrovent during pregnancy has not been established. The use of Atrovent during confirmed pregnancy or possible pregnancy should be weighed against the possible harm to the unborn baby. Preclinical studies have shown that inhaled or intranasal administration of Atrovent at doses higher than those recommended for humans has no neonatal toxicity or teratogenicity. It is not known whether Atrovent is excreted through breast milk. Although non-lipid-soluble tetravalent cations can enter breast milk, Atrovent is unlikely to enter infants to a large extent, especially when inhaled. Nevertheless, since many drugs can be excreted through breast milk, Atrovent should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Precautions for the elderly: No special precautions.
Drug Interactions
β-agonists and xanthines can enhance bronchodilator effects. When ipratropium bromide and β-agonists are used together, patients with a history of narrow-angle glaucoma may be at increased risk of acute glaucoma attacks (see [Precautions]).
Storage
Keep in a dark place, tightly closed, and store below 25°C. Keep out of reach of children. Valid for three years.
