Eperisone Hydrochloride
Function and Efficacy
Eperisone hydrochloride is a central skeletal muscle relaxant with multiple pharmacological actions. Animal experiments indicate that eperisone can dose-dependently inhibit the decerebrate rigidity (γ-tymponicity) and ischemic decerebrate rigidity (α-tymponicity) caused by thalamic transection in rats, and inhibit the monosynaptic and polysynaptic reflex potentials caused by stimulation of the dorsal roots of the spinal cord in cats with spinal cord injury, and may reduce the sensitivity of muscle spindles by inhibiting the γ-neuron system. Eperisone has the effects of a calcium antagonist and blocking muscle sympathetic nerves, acting on vascular smooth muscle, dilating blood vessels, and increasing blood flow. Animal experiments have found that spinal cord perfusion of eperisone in rats can inhibit the pain reflex caused by tail pinch pain, while the pain reflex recovers when the perfusion is stopped, indicating that it has an analgesic effect at the spinal cord level.
