Lipoic Acid Injection
Function and Efficacy
In vitro experiments show that this product can reduce lipid oxidation in nerve tissues, and this product may prevent the glycosylation of proteins; and it can inhibit aldose reductase, thereby preventing the conversion of glucose or galactose into sorbitol, so lipoic acid can prevent diabetes, control blood sugar, and prevent neuropathy caused by hyperglycemia. Lipoic acid is a strong antioxidant in both water-soluble and oil-soluble matrices. Both lipoic acid and its reduced form of dihydrolipoic acid can play an antioxidant role. They can directly or indirectly promote the regeneration of vitamin C and vitamin E in the body. Studies have shown that lipoic acid can increase the levels of glutathione and coenzyme Q10 in cells. Lipoic acid can chelate certain metal ions (such as copper, manganese, and zinc) to form stable chelates. In animal models, it has been shown that it can protect against arsenic poisoning and reduce liver toxicity after chromium poisoning. In in vitro experiments, it was also found that mercury ions can be chelated from kidney slices. This product is safe within the range of clinical application doses. The LD50 for dogs is 400~500mg/kg when taken orally; for rats with severe vitamin B1 deficiency, intraperitoneal injection of 20mg/kg was found to be lethal. Currently, there is insufficient experimental data to ensure the safety of pregnant women. Clinical side effects are rare. Among the side effects that have been recorded, the main one is skin allergies, and the drug should be stopped at this time.

Usage and Dosage
This product is for intravenous injection. Intravenous injection should be slow, with a maximum speed of 50 mg lipoic acid per minute. This product can also be added to normal saline for intravenous drip, such as 250~500 mg of lipoic acid added to 100~250 ml of normal saline, and the intravenous drip time is about 30 minutes. Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, patients with paresthesia caused by severe diabetic peripheral neuropathy can be given intravenous drip, 300~600 mg per day, and a course of treatment is 2~4 weeks.
Adverse Reactions
Too fast intravenous infusion may occasionally cause headache and dyspnea, but they can be relieved by themselves. Very few patients have convulsions, diplopia, purpura and bleeding tendency caused by abnormal platelet function after using this product.
