Melanocyte stimulating hormone, also known as melatonin, is a Melanocyte-stimulating hormone. There are two kinds of polypeptide hormones, α and β, which are straight-chain polypeptide α-MSH is thirteen peptide and β-MSH (bovine) is eighteen peptide. The same heptapeptide sequence of α-MSH and β-MSH is necessary for MSH activity. Insoluble in ether, petroleum ether, acetone, ethyl acetate, has a strong acid and alkali resistance.
MSH can promote a large number of melanocytes in the skin to produce melanin, make the skin black. Can free fatty acids in adipose tissue, improve visual retention, change nerve stress, improve mental retardation of attention and memory.
