What is Zinc sulphate ?

Zinc sulfate (zincsulfate; ZnSO4, also known as opalum and zinc alum, is colorless or white rhombic crystal or powder at room temperature, has astringency, easily soluble in water, aqueous solution is acidic, slightly soluble in ethanol and glycerol. Pure zinc sulfate in the air for a long time unchanged yellow, placed in dry air to lose water into a white powder. There are a variety of hydrates: the stable hydrate in equilibrium with water in the range of 0-39℃ is zinc sulfate heptahydrate, the zinc sulfate of 6 water in 39-60 ℃, and the zinc sulfate of 1 water in 60-100℃. When heated to 280℃, all hydrates completely lose crystal water, decompose into zinc oxysulfate at 680℃, further decompose above 750℃, and finally decompose into zinc oxide and sulfur trioxide at about 930℃. ZnSO4·7H2O and MSO4·7H2O (M=Mg,Fe,Mn,Co,Ni) form mixed crystals in a certain range.

Zinc sulfate is mainly used as a raw material for making pigment Litho powder, zinc barium white and other zinc compounds. It is also used as a nutrient for animal zinc deficiency, animal husbandry feed additive, zinc fertilizer for crops (trace element fertilizer), an important material for artificial fiber, electrochemicalbook electrolytic solution for metal zinc production, mordant in textile industry, medical emetics, astringents, fungicides, wood and leather preservatives, etc. It is obtained by the action of zinc or zinc oxide with sulfuric acid or by the extraction and refining of sphalerite after roasting in a reverberatory furnace.

Zinc sulfate is the main raw material for the manufacture of zinc barium white and zinc salt, and can also be used as a dyeing mordant, a preservative for wood and leather, and an important auxiliary raw material for the production of viscose fiber and vinylon fiber. In addition, it is also used in the electroplating and electrolysis industry, and can also be used in the manufacture of cables. Cooling water is the largest amount of water used in industry. The cooling water in the closed cycle cooling system can not corrode and scale the metal, so it must be treated, this process is called water quality stability, and zinc sulfate is used as a water quality stabilizer here.

Medicine:

Oral zinc sulfate can correct zinc deficiency and restore the function of the enzyme system. Zinc ion can precipitate protein, external use has astringent preservative effect, and can help the formation of granulation tissue. Medicinal zinc sulfate is suitable for the treatment of intestinal disease acrodermatitis, aphthous ulcer, chronic ulcer, conjunctivitis and so on caused by Chemicalbook zinc deficiency. However, sharing with penicillamine can weaken the latter effect. Zinc sulfate monohydrate can be used as zinc supplement in feed.
Agriculture:
Can be used to prevent the disease of fruit tree nursery, is also a common fertilizer to supplement crops zinc trace element fertilizer, can be used as base fertilizer, leaf fertilizer and so on. Zinc is one of the essential nutrients for plants, and corn is prone to white flower seedlings due to zinc deficiency. When zinc deficiency is severe, the growth will stop or even the seedlings will die. Especially for some sandy loam soil or fields with high pH value, zinc fertilizer such as Chemicalbook sulfate should be applied. Fertilization method: Take 0.04~0.06 kg of zinc fertilizer, 1 kg of water, mix 10 kg of seed, pile up 2~3 hours to sow. Apply zinc fertilizer to the rhizosphere layer before sowing, 0.75~1 kg per mu. If the leaf color is light at the seedling stage, zinc fertilizer can be sprayed with 0.1 kg per mu.

Acidic salts, such as ZINC SULFATE, are generally soluble in water. The resulting solutions contain moderate concentrations of hydrogen ions and have pH's of less than 7.0. They react as acids to neutralize bases. These neutralizations generate heat, but less or far less than is generated by neutralization of inorganic acids, inorganic oxoacids, and carboxylic acid. They usually do not react as either oxidizing agents or reducing agents but such behavior is not impossible. Many of these compounds catalyze organic reactions.
