1. Food: Mannitol is one of the commonly used sugar alcohol substitutes, often used in sugar-free gum ingredients. Mannitol is the least absorbent sugar alcohol and can be used as food anti-stick powder. The hygienic standard for the use of food additives in China GB2760-2007 stipulates that it can be used for sugar-free chewing gum with a maximum dosage of 200g/kg. As confirmed by JECFA, ADI values range from 0 to 50mg/(kg body weight ·d). The FDA regulates the maximum amount of mannitol used in various types of food as follows: mints 98%, gummies 40%, hard candies 5%, preserves and ice cream 8%, cough drops 5%, jams and jellies 15%, gum candy 31%, and other foods 2.5%. Mannitol is listed in the United States Pharmacopoeia, the Natural Medicine Section, and in pharmacopoeia around the world, including the Food Chemicalbook Chemical Manual (FEC).
2. Medicine: For injection infusion, used to reduce brain pressure, eye pressure, eliminate brain edema; Used as a diuretic; Renal function and intestinal examination; Oliguria and renal failure caused by edema burn, mannitol infusion has a certain effect; Compound infusion with amino acid. Because of its good compression properties, it has become an excellent excipient in the pharmaceutical industry. In addition, mannitol mustard and mannitol dimethanesulfonic acid synthesized from mannitol are antitumor drugs, which are suitable for chronic leukemia.
3. Chemical industry: Mannitol is produced into various resins and surface activators through esterification and etherification. Mannitol ester can be used as polyvinyl chloride plasticizer.
