Description	Amikacin is an antibiotic used for a number of bacterial infections. This includes joint infections, intraabdominal infections, meningitis, pneumonia, sepsis, and urinary tract infections. It is also used for the treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. It is used either by injection into a vein or muscle. Amikacin is in the aminoglycoside family of medications. It works by blocking the function of the bacteria's 30S ribosomal subunit, making it unable to make protein.

Amikacin Sulfate is a semi-synthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from kanamycin A. It is known for its activity against gram-negative bacilli, including those that are resistant to other aminoglycosides such as Acinetobacter baumanii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Amikacin is also effective against most aerobic gram-negative bacilli from the Enterobacteriaceae family, as well as some Mycobacterium species like M. avium-intracellulare, M. chelonae, and M. fortuitum 。

Uses:

Amikacin Sulfate is used to treat serious infections caused by sensitive Gram-negative bacteria, including sepsis, bacterial endocarditis, lower respiratory tract infections, bone and joint infections, intra-abdominal infections, complicated urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections. It is particularly indicated for infections caused by strains resistant to other aminoglycosides like kanamycin, gentamicin, or tobramycin 。

Precautions:

- Amikacin can cause nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity, so renal function and auditory tests should be monitored, especially in elderly patients or those with pre-existing renal impairment.
