Dichloromethane is a compound of methane in which two hydrogen atoms are replaced by chlorine. The molecular formula is CH2Cl2. A colorless, transparent, heavier than water, volatile liquid with an ether-like odor and sweet taste that does not burn but forms explosive mixtures when mixed with a high concentration of oxygen.
Slightly soluble in water, and most commonly used organic solvents, and other chlorine containing solvents, ether, ethanol and N, n-dimethylformamide can also be arbitrarily miscible.
